Electronic Gaming Software Development Firm Appoints Laralyn McWilliams Head of Its Design Team
Los Angeles, CA – Electronic gaming software development firm The Workshop Entertainment, Inc. has appointed Laralyn McWilliams its new studio design director. McWilliams was previously the creative director for the MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) Free Realms at Sony Online Entertainment.
Before joining The Workshop, McWilliams was VP of Creative for iWin in San Francisco. Her core game experience includes stints at several third party developers including the role of lead designer for Full Spectrum Warrior, which was the most nominated game of E3/2003. In 2010 McWilliams headed Massive Online Gaming’s list of the Top 20 Most Influential People in MMOs, as well as Beckett’s list of top women in MMOs. Gamasutra named her to its 2008 list of 20 Most Influential Women in Games.
“We are pleased and excited to have Laralyn leading our creative team,” says Chris Busse, general manager of The Workshop Entertainment, Inc. “We’re confident that her proven abilities will enrich projects we currently have in development and help guide the focus of future work.”
McWilliams brings more than nineteen years of relevant experience to her new role, including helping design and build award winning social, strategy, simulation, platform, brawler, FPS and massively multiplayer online games, Busse notes.
“I was attracted to The Workshop because of its great combination of experience and innovation,” says McWilliams. “With a lot of exciting projects in the works, across a variety of platforms, my experience in the online space will definitely be put to very good use.”
